At the opening ceremony of the conference, Dr. Li Juan, Program Director of NEXCEL, gave a keynote speech entitled "Sustainable Solutions of Concrete". With engineering cases such as Lahe Huyen Port in Vietnam, Jizan Flood Mitigation Channel in Saudi Arabia and Sanya FRP Breakwater in China, she introduced in detail the application of FRP rebars and composites in marine engineering, not only showing the outstanding advantages of corrosion resistance and low cost of FRP composite, but also providing innovative ideas and sustainable solutions for coastal infrastructure construction.

As one of the important sessions of the conference, NEXCEL Forum on "Non-metallic for Sustainable Infrastructure" was successfully held on November 2nd. This forum was co-chaired by Dr. Mai Ngoc Tam, Vice President of the VIBM, and Dr. Li Juan. Eight project Principal Investigators of NEXCEL shared their latest research outcomes and practical experience in the field of nonmetallic materials for sustainable infrastructure.
Prof. WANG Zhendi from CBMA gave an invited speech entitled "3D Printing Cement-based Materials", introduced the use of hydrocarbon-based polymer emulsion to improve the bond strength of 3D printed concrete interlayer interface, and proposed the implementation of nylon nails to enhance the performance of 3D printed polymer modified concrete structure.

Prof. HU Chuanlin from Wuhan University of Technology gave an invited speech entitled "Research and Application of Graphene in Concrete", introduced the production of low-cost graphene by hydrocarbon-based products and its influence mechanism on the mechanical and durability of concrete, and proposed high performance concrete preparation technology based on the high dispersion utilization of low-cost graphene.

Asso. Prof. WANG Qianqian from Nanjing Tech University gave a speech on "Properties and Demonstration of Asphalt Mixtures Incorporating High Volumes of Recycled Plastics". She introduced the method and preparation process of using recycled thermoplastics and thermosetting plastics to replace asphalt and fillers, as well as a successful application in Suqian, Jiangsu Province.

Senior Engineer XUE Tong from CBMA gave a speech entitled "Investigation on the Synthesis and Characteristics of a novel Polycarboxylate Superplasticizer". He introduced the preparation technology of ultra-high dispersion polycarboxylic superplasticizer developed and its application in low-carbon cement and ultra-high performance concrete.

Prof. LIU Tianqiao from Beijing University of Technology gave an invited speech on "Carbon Emissions of High-performance Pultruded FRP Composite Structures", studying the performance and life-cycle carbon emissions of high modulus FRP pultruded profiles. By comparing with concrete and steel structures, FRP structures achieve the same structural properties with lighter weight and less carbon emissions.

Prof. LING Tung-Chai from Hunan University gave an invited speech on "Enhancing CO2 Sequestration in the Cement Concrete Life Cycle: Strategies for Optimization". He introduced the novel method of increasing CO2 absorption of recycled concrete fine powder by carbonation and the high value-added utilization of carbon mineralized concrete fine powder as an auxiliary cementing material for the preparation of cement slurry.

Asso. Prof. LI Chenggao from Harbin Institute of Technology gave a speech on "Preparation and Properties of High Performance Fiber Reinforced Thermoplastic Bending Rebars", introduced the melt pultrude technology and high efficiency hot bending technology of thermoplastic FRP rebars, and proposed a rib forming method to improve the interface bonding performance of thermoplastic FRP bars and concrete.

Senior Engineer XIE Shuai from CBMA gave a speech on "Research and Application of Building Materials with Environmental Health Functions", and introduced the function of several typical environmental health materials and their potential applications in decoration materials in the future, focusing on chemical pollution prevention and control, biological pollution prevention and control, and human settlement environment.

The successful holding of NEXCEL Forum on Non-metallic for Sustainable Infrastructure not only provides a platform for experts and scholars of China and Vietnam to exchange ideas, but also strengthen the cooperation between China and Vietnam in the green transformation of the building and construction industry.
During the conference, the delegation of NEXCEL visited Vietnam Institute of Building Materials and Xuan Thanh cement factory.
