Two CFRP Cable-stayed Bridges Debut in China

Introduction
Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer cables(CFRP cables) possess excellent properties such as lightweight, high strength, corrosion resistance, fatigue resistance, low stress relaxation and low linear expansion coefficient. CFRP cables, as crucial components in bridge structures, can improve the load-carrying efficiency and span of bridges, addressing the challenges of corrosion and fatigue in steel wire cables and resulting in high-performance bridge structures with lightweight and long service life. In recent years, CFRP cables have been successfully applied in Tuhaihe Bridge in Liaocheng, Shandong Province and Cable-Stayed Bridge in Jiangyin, Jiangsu Province.
Zero Breakthrough - Tuhaihe Bridge in Shandong
On June 28, 2022, the Tuhaihe Bridge in Shandong Province was officially opened to traffic, which is the first bridge equipped with CFRP cables and the first demonstration of a thousand-ton-level cable anchor system made of CFRP in China, marking a significant breakthrough in the application of domestic CFRP technology.
The Tuhaihe Bridge comprises 72 stay cables, including 4 CFRP cables of 13 meters long. Each CFRP cable consists of 121 CFRP tendons with a diameter of 7 millimeters which are made of SYT49S-12K carbon fiber, provided by Zhongfu Shenying Cabon Fiber affiliate to China National Building Material Group.
The successful application of CFRP cables in Tuhaihe Bridge serves as a significant milestone in building and construction sector. Moreover, It has boken new ground for the application of CFRP, laying a solid foundation for new approaches in bridge design.
The New Height - Cable-stayed Bridge in Jiangsu
The installation of stay cables in Cable-Stayed Bridge in Jiangyin has been completed in 45 days, achieving a demonstration of the longest CFRP stay cables in China.
The Cable-Stayed Bridge consists of 48 ultra-high-strength stay cables, provided by FASTEN Group(Jiangsu, China), manufacturer of wire and cable products. Two CFRP cables especially, are the longest in China, with a length up to 67 meters.
The application of this project will enhance the innovation capacity and international competitiveness in bridge cable systems. It will provide technical support for further development of the bridge cable industry in China.
