NEXCEL Forum on Building Efficiency & Insulation Materials held online

On November 17, NEXCEL Forum on Building Efficiency & Insulation Materials was successfully held. Chaired by Dr. LI Juan, Program Director of NEXCEL, and Prof. SUN Shibing ofBeijing University of Technology and TAC member of NEXCEL, this forum was participated by more than 3,200 viewers. Five renowned experts from the field of building efficiency and insulation were invited to share the latest research progress, national regulations and engineering application on fabricated structures for ultra-low energy buildings and new organic insulation materials.

 

 


Firstly, Prof. AI Mingxing from China Academy of Building Research delivered a keynote report on 'Practice of Non-load Bearing Exterior Wall System for Fabricated Ultra-low Energy Buildings'. Prof. AI introduced the background of fabricated buildings, ultra-low energy buildings, building envelope structures and non-load bearing exterior wall system, addressed in details the implementation plan and path in practical engineering projects.

Prof. SUN Shibing from Beijing University of Technology delivered a keynote report on Insulation Materials and Building Efficiency'. Prof. SUN introduced the principles of building efficiency and different types of insulation materials and characteristics. He pointed out that improving the fire retardance of insulation materials is an eternal theme, and improving the tensile strength of insulation system is a guarantee for building safety.

Prof. CHEN Xiaonong from Beijing University of Chemical Technology shared a keynote speech on 'Status and Research of Phenolic Foam and its Modification'. Professor CHEN introduced the application status of phenolic foam as insulation. Aiming to solving the problems in application, his team carried out research on the toughening modification of phenolic foam, solutions to reduce acidity, study on non-combustible foaming agents, and development of phenolic polyurethane composite materials. Their findings greatly improved the application of phenolic foam  in building insulation.

Prof. DONG Quanxiao from China Academy of Railway Sciencesshared his study on improving the flame retardancy of polyurethane (PU) and its application in building sector. Aiming at the problems of fire protection, aging and durability of PU materials, Prof. DONG conducted modification research on flame retardant property of expandable graphite filled PU foam composites, and phosphaphenanthrene fire retardant PU respectively, which significantly improved the flame retardant performance of PU materials and expanded their application in engineering.

Mr. CHEN Mo, COO of TCK Green Technology Company, gave a speech on ’Application of Nano-composite Materials for Ultra-low Energy Consumption Buildings’. His team developed a multi-layer nano-composite cavity wall and an integrated of enclosure structure design, to achieve the excellent insulation performance of building wall.

In the final salon session, experts expressed their views onexisting problems for external thermal insulation of cladding system, future external envelope structures, corrosion of phenolic material, and the modification of PU materials. The forum was concluded in a warm discussion. In this forum, the audience got more understanding of the development and research status of building efficiency and building insulation materials, as well as the future development of the industry.
