With the theme of "low-carbon and green development", ISCC2022 invited 13 world renowned scientists, including Prof. Karen Scrivener, academician of the Royal Academy of Engineering of UK, Prof. Julia Stegemann from University College London, Prof. Johann Plank from the Technical University of Munich, Prof. Nele De Belie from Ghent University, Prof. Hu Shuguang from Wuhan University of Technology, Prof. Yan Peiyu from Tsinghua University, and Prof. Yu Qijun from South China University of Technology, to deliver keynote speeches.

In order to promote the application of hydrocarbon-based nonmetallic materials in concrete, NEXCEL co-organized the Session on "Polymer materials in concrete" on 14th Nov. The speeches of the session covered  application of hydrocarbon-based products such as epoxy resin, FRP rebars, recycled waste plastics, acrylate polymers, PVA fibers, etc. in concrete. Chaired by Dr. QIAO Min and Dr. LI Juan, Program Director of NEXCEL, this session was participated by a total of over 200 attendees.

Prof. Jin Zuquan from Qingdao University of Technology and Prof. Zeng Qiang form Zhejiang University, gave reports on the theme of "Experimental and Molecular Dynamics Study on the Deterioration Mechanism of FRP Bars in Corrosion Solution" and "Upcycling waste plastics to fabric weight, waterproof, and carbonation resistant cementitious materials with polymer nano silica hybrids",respectively. Prof. Jin explained the deterioration mechanism of FRP reinforcement in corrosive solution by the molecular dynamics simulation and experiment. Four concepts of inner protection, middle resistance, surface sealing, and outer defense for reinforcing concrete structures are proposed to provide more theoretical basis for the protection of concrete. Prof. Zeng obtained waste plastic concrete with low strength loss and excellent waterproof performance by introducing polymer (EVA) - nano silica (n-SiO2) hybrid modified waste plastic to replace part of concrete sand. The research results will provide a basis for the design and manufacture of waste plastic cementitious materials.
