NEXCEL Convened a Workshop on Nonmetallic Materials in Beijing

On April 7, 2024, NEXCEL convened the Project Planning Workshop on special concrete, pavement, construction chemicals, waterproofing, and insulation materials in Beijing. Member of Chinese Academy of Engineering(CAE), Prof. Liu Jiaping from Southeast University, Mr. Zhi Xiao, Chairman of China Building Materials Academy (CBMA), and over 10 top experts from universities, producers, designers, and end users were presented, and the workshop was chaired by Prof. Yao Yan, Chairlady of NEXCEL Technical Advisory Committee (TAC).

First, Mr. Zhi Xiao warmly welcomed Prof.Liu Jiaping and all the experts. He expressed that NEXCEL is jointly established by Aramco and CBMA, and focuses on technological innovation and applications of nonmetallic materials, aiming to provide more sustainable solutions for the building and construction sector. Mr. Zhi Xiao hoped that the experts would discuss the most important and pressing technical/market challenges, and provide valuable recommendations to improve the application of nonmetallic materials in building and construction sector.

Before the meeting, Mr. Zhi Xiao, on behalf of NEXCEL Steering Committee, presented a letter of appointment as NEXCEL Strategic Consultant to Prof. Liu Jiaping.

During the meeting, Dr. Li Juan, Program Director of NEXCEL, introduced the NEXCEL funded projects, existing researchand standards. Prof. Xu Jian, Vice President of Research Institute of Highway Ministry of Transport, Prof. Liu Hao, Chief Engineer of Beijing Municipal Road & Bridge Building Materials Group, Prof. Kong Xiangming from Tsinghua University, Prof. Guo Shaojun from Peking University, Prof. Wang Lin from CBMA, Prof. Yang Xiaoyu from Wuhan University of Technology, Prof. Sun Shibin from Beijing University Of Technology, Prof. Ai Mingxing, Deputy Chief Engineer of CABR Tech, Prof. Wang Lingyun from China Architecture Design & Research Group, Prof. Zhang Yong, Chief Engineer of China National Building Waterproof Association, and Mr. Wang Lei, Chief Engineer of Wanhua EnergySav Science&Technology Group have discussed in depth from various aspects such as production, design, research, and application, combined with their professional backgrounds, thoroughly analyzed the technical challenges in the performance, standards, specifications, and engineering design of nonmetallic materials in engineering applications, and put forward practical and reasonable recommendations.

Finally, Prof. Liu Jiaping delivered a concluding speech. He acknowledged NEXCEL's contributions as an international platform for industry development, and presented the technical recommendationsfor the future application of nonmetallic materials.

Through this workshop, the advantages and potential in the application of nonmetallic materials on NEXCEL’S focus areas were identified and well-targeted recommendations were provided. NEXCEL will gather and summarize the recommendations, as well as commit to the improvement of the application of nonmetallic materials.
