Demonstration Project Overview:
The Anyang-Hebi Highway is a key transportation infrastructure project in Henan Province, which starts from Yindu District, Anyang City to Qi County, Hebi City. The total route is 54.8 kilometers. The AHTJ-3 section is a critical segment of the Anyang-Hebi highway, characterized by bridge construction and complex terrain work. The technique was successfully applied in the side road of this project. Traditional concrete pavements used in highway construction are prone to being damaged and have limited service life under extreme conditions, such as high load and complex climates.

To address the drawback of traditional concrete pavement, gradient enhanced polymer modified concrete for structural use was prepared in this project. Theoretical modeling and laboratory testing confirmed the excellent performance of this gradient structure. For its implementation, the project team innovatively synthesized the magnetically responsive polymer latex (Fig. 3), which can be triggered to move in fresh concrete and enriched in the surface of concrete pavement. In addition, the device used for applying magnetic field in construction site was invented for the application of polymer latex in the road pavement (Fig. 4). This project not only ensures superior pavement performance but also achieves effective cost reduction. The compressive strength of prepared polymer-modified concrete under the polymer dosage of 4% is more than 60 MPa, flexural strength is more than 12 MPa, and the abrasion resistance is less than 0.1 kg/M2.

Through the application of the gradient-enhanced polymer-modified concrete, the durability and service life of concrete pavements can be improved, which is beneficial for the wide application of polymer latex in concrete pavement.
