Jointly developed by the China Building Materials Academy (CBMA) and Beijing Qintian Sci&Tech Group, the PCM particles realize temperature regulation by storing heat when the pavement temperature is above the phase change point and releasing heat when it is below. With a high latent heat of phase change up to 85.7 kJ/kg and an energy storage capacity degradation rate below 1.0%, the particles’ performance meets the requirements of relevant industry and local standards.
In this project, a total of 25,000 tons of PCM asphalt mixture containing 76 tons of PCM particles were applied at tunnel portal and on slopes. Through temperature regulation enabled by PCM, it effectively prevents ice and snow from adhering to the pavement to ensure safe and smooth traffic flow. Additionally, it can also alleviate pavement distresses such as rutting and cracking caused by thermal expansion and contraction, thereby reducing maintenance costs and extending the service life of asphalt pavement.
