NEXCEL Held Its First Steering Committee Meeting

On March 22, 2022, the First Steering Committee Meeting (hereinafter referred to as SC) of Nonmetallic Excellence and Innovation Center for Building Materials(hereinafter referred to as NEXCEL), co-founded by China National Building Materials Group and Saudi Aramco, was held in China Building Materials Academy(hereinafter referred to as CBMA).
The meeting was held both online and on site. All of the SC members were present at the meeting, including Waleed Al-Otaibi, Head of Nonmetallic PMO&Engineering (online participation), Mohammed Al-Qahtani, Head of Engineering & Technical Services, Riyadh Shiban, Head of Civil & Structural Engineering(online participation), Ma Zhenzhu, Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of CBMA, Hou Diyang, Member of the Party Committee and Deputy General Manager of CBMA , and Wang Hua, Minister of Science and Technology Department of CBMA.The meeting was presided over by Mr. Waleed Al-Otaibi as the first rotating chairman of the SC.
Mr. Waleed Al-Otaibi addressed his opening remarks by expressing his gratitude to NEXCEL's operation team. He also expressed his thanks to Technical Advisory Committee and Technical Support and Liaison Office for their professional opinions in areas of technology acceleration, standards and specifications, development and thought leadership as well as advocacy and training. These opinions will help NEXCEL to clarify the development direction and realize its core functions. Meanwhile, he also thanked the SC members from CBMA for their strong support to NEXCEL, which will further promote the realization of the center's target of becoming an international innovation highland in the future.
Mr. Ma Zhenzhu congratulated the SC on the successful convening of the first meeting and introduced the development of CBMA in the field of scientific research since its establishment 72 years ago. He pointed out that since then CBMA has undertaken the work of guide compilation of major fundamental research projects listed in various national five-year plans for many times.
Furthermore, CBMA has also taken the lead in undertaking a number of major scientific research projects in the field of building materials at state and ministry levels. It has accumulated rich experience in the field of inorganic non-metallic materials, and is fully capable and confident to manage NEXCEL's project funds. In the future, CBMA will also give full support to NEXCEL's development .
Program Director Li Juan reported on various tasks carried out by NEXCEL’s operation team and current progress since its establishment in January this year, and introduced key contents of 2022 Business Plan and Program Guidelines in detail. After fully reviewing and discussing the above issues, all the SC members finally passed relevant resolutions on the above documents. According to NEXCEL's Business Plan, it will set up a research and development fund, and release the 2022 Program Guidelines in the near future for open application from the whole industry.
As the first SC meeting since the establishment of NEXCEL, this meeting was very fruitful and successful. The members from both sides reached a consensus on NEXCEL's 2022 Business Plan, which laid a solid foundation for NEXCEL's development in the future.
