On November 6, 2025, the 2025 NEXCEL Forum on ECC Materials was successfully held. This forum was chaired by Professor YU Jiangtao from Tongji University, Secretary General of ECC Branch of China Concrete & Cement-based Products Association, and three well-known experts delivered insightful presentations and shared their research and application experience. This forum attracted nearly 6000 viewers.

Professor Victor C. LI from the University of Michigan, inventor of ECC, systematically expounded the multi-crack opening mechanism of ECC, nonmetallic structures with FRP and ECC, and the practical application cases of ECC in building, transportation, underground and energy facilities. He pointed out that ECC, with its ability to save raw materials and excellent durability, is a new generation of materials that can help the construction industry reduce carbon emission, achieve long lifespan and intelligence.

Professor JING Guoqing from Beijing Jiaotong University analyzed the shortcomings and limitations of traditional concrete sleepers, and focused on the preparation process, crack control, static load tests and other key results of ECC sleepers. By comparing them with ordinary concrete sleepers, he highlighted the advantages of ECC sleepers. He also introduced the application of ECC sleepers in the ballastless track slabs of heavy-load tunnels.

Based on the AI-assisted design method for ECC, Professor YU Kequan from Tongji University  developed high-strength, high-tensile, and high-modulus ECC with low fiber content. He systematically introduced the mechanical properties of ECC components and their synergistic improvement effects in terms of high load-bearing capacity and durability. Finally, he further proposed the application prospects of high-strength ECC in bridges, buildings, and wind power facilities.

In the salon/Q&A session, experts discussed topics such as the advantages of ECC in structural reinforcement, the usage of non-metallic fibers in ECC, and the long-term deformation of ECC sleepers.

We look forward to meeting you again at NEXCEL Forum on FRPs for Civil Engineering on November 20, 2025.
