On August 30, Mr. DU Yunchang from the University of Lille, the Principal Investigator of NEXCEL 2024 PHD project “Preparation of Ultra-High Ductility Cementitious Sleeper and Study on Its Static and Dynamic Properties”, attended The 2025 European Chinese Students and Scholars Seminar and delivered a presentation entitled “Uniaxial and Triaxial Mechanical Behavior of High-Performance Engineered Cementitious Composites (ECC): Stress–Strain Response and Failure Characteristics”.

The presentation elaborated on the mechanical response characteristics of the material under uniaxial compression and tension, including stress–strain relationships, crack initiation and propagation patterns, and post-cracking geometrical morphology. It further provided a comparative analysis of key mechanical parameters such as ultimate compressive strength, ultimate strain, elastic modulus, and Poisson’s ratio under uniaxial and triaxial loading, thereby revealing the regulatory effect of confining pressure on the macroscopic mechanical performance of the material. In addition, by integrating CT scanning techniques, the study offered an in-depth investigation into crack initiation, propagation, and failure mechanisms under triaxial confinement, highlighting the influence of boundary conditions on crack evolution from a microstructural perspective. These findings lay a solid foundation for the engineering application of ECC in complex loading environments.
