Introduction

The 79th RILEM Week was held successfully in Hanoi, Vietnam, from August 24th to 29th 2025. Six NEXCEL project teams were invited to share the latest innovations and applications in advanced nonmetallic materials. During the conference, NEXCEL successfully hosted a special session "Non-Metallic for Resilient Infrastructure",as the first collaboration following the RILEM-NEXCEL International Partnership Agreement signed in December 2024.

The 79th RILEM Week, organized by the Vietnam Concrete Association (VCA), Vietnam Institute for Building Materials (VIBM), and Hanoi University of Civil Engineering (HUCE), established a global platform for sharing breakthroughs and exploring frontier technologies in sustainable construction. Nearly 400 participants from more than 50 countries attended the conference and contributed insights and solutions to advance sustainable transformation in the global building industry.

Dr. Li Juan, Professor of China Building Materials Academy (CBMA) and Program Director of NEXCEL, as a keynote speaker, delivered a speech titled "Sustainable solutions of concrete". Through analysis of marine engineering cases—Dinh An Port (Vietnam), Jizan Flood Mitigation Channel (Saudi Arabia) and Coastal Infrastructure (China)—she demonstrated how to improve the fire-resistant and creep-resistant of Fiber-Reinforced Polymer (FRP) composites in marine environments. She delivers a replicable, scalable and sustainable solution to improve durability of infrastructure in global coastal areas.
