From February 25 to 26, 2025, NEXCEL team visited Chang'an University to communicate with NEXCEL project teams of 2024 TDA project "Development and demonstration of non-metallic additives for emission absorption and permanent sequestration of CO2 in asphalt pavement" and 2022 PHD project "Multi-scale study on interface adhesion and failure mechanism between asphalt and aggregate". Prof XIAO Yue, Dean of the School of Materials Science and Engineering and Prof ZHANG Jiupeng, Vice Dean of the School of Highway, attended the meeting .

Prof XIAO Yue, PI of the 2024 TDA project, introduced the progress and specific optimization measures on the performance improvement methods of emission absorption and carbon sequestration. He pointed out that in order to achieve the project target, they will strive to ensure that the performance of the asphalt mixture is not reduced on the basis of achieving a breakthrough in asphalt VOCs emission and carbon sequestration, and the results will be applied in highway pavement.

Prof ZHANG Jiupeng, PI of 2022 PHD project, introduced the new generation of transportation, and shared the research results of highway pavement materials, airport pavement materials, urban ecological infrastructure and other fields. He expressed that on the basis of 2022 PHD project, the two sides could further explore new petroleum-based materials, reduce the cost of roads, improve the green level of infrastructure, and promote the realization of the dual-carbon goal in the transportation field.

Dr LI Juan, NEXCEL Program Director, expressed recognition of the achievements of two project teams. She highlighted that the project teams should accelerate the development of new products, optimize the test plan in time, and strive to apply the project results to engineering applications as soon as possible. At the same time, she said that NEXCEL will fully support the project teams to jointly solve the difficulties encountered in the implementation process.

The exchange meeting has enabled NEXCEL to better track the progress of Chang'an University team. Both parties will maintain regular technical coordination, promptly implement optimization adjustments for any deviations from the technical roadmap during project execution, while accelerating demonstration project preparations to ensure the orderly progression of established project milestones.
