2024 NEXCEL Forum on Pavement Materials was Held

On December 5, 2024, the 2024 NEXCEL Forum on Pavement Materials was successfully held. This forum was chaired by Prof. HUANG Songchang from Research Institute of Highway Ministry of Transport (RIOH), TAC member of NEXCEL. Three well-known experts delivered insightful presentations and shared their research and application experience. This forum attracted over 6500 viewers.

Dr. WANG Jie, Associate Professor of RIOH and key project member of NEXCEL, gave a presentation entitled "Research and Application of Polyurethane Pavement". He gave a detailed introduction of polyurethane adhesives, polyurethane materials and structures, and engineering applications. He pointed out that the novel polyurethane pavement material has the advantages of environmental friendly, excellent performance and outstanding carbon emission reduction.

Prof. XIAO Yue from Chang’an University, Principal Investigator of NEXCEL, gave a presentation entitled "Asphalt Pavement Materials with Low VOCs Emission". He introduced the component analysis of asphalt VOCs, the establishment of information base, and the portable testing equipment. The ultra-low emission of asphalt VOCs has been realized through the development of efficient inhibitor materials, which has been applied in more than 10 applications. He pointed out that the research and development of asphalt materials with low environmental load is the key to reducing gaseous pollutants in the whole life cycle of asphalt pavement.

Prof. WANG Shifeng from Shanghai Jiao Tong University gave a presentation entitled "Innovation and Application of Rubberized Asphalt with Low Carbon Emissions". He introduced the integration technology of material structure and performance of the new generation of low-carbon rubber asphalt, the green decrosslinking technology of waste rubber, and the colloid modification technology, and listed a large number of engineering applications of rubber asphalt. He also introduced cutting-edge technologies such as bionic tire pavement.

 
 
 

In the salon/Q&A session, Prof. HUANG Songchang summarized the presentations and discussed with the speakers onthedurability and construction performance of polyurethane mixture, effective suppression methods of asphalt VOCs, and aging of rubber asphalt. This forum was successfully concluded in a lively discussion.
