Prof. Liu, in his presentation, introduced the research progress pertaining to TDA project, including the demonstration project “ultra-lightweight and large-scale pultruded GFRP profile for external frame beam for high-rise buildings in Qingdao”, CSTM standard “Standard test method for tensile properties of pultruded fiber reinforced polymer composites — Using a dual-tapered specimen”, and study on “epoxy-phenolic” binary resin system.
Prof. Liu pointed out that pultruded FRP composites, owing to their favorable features such as light weight, high strength, and high durability, have shown great competitiveness and application potential in civil engineering worldwide. Design of pultruded FRP structures are controlled by material properties, while material properties are to be tailored in manufacturing process. Thus, in order to achieve the pre-designated material strength and modulus, the fiber-resin recipe must be addressed first, and then, at structural level, structural strength, stiffness and durability can be satisfied. This presentation is to build the correlation among material manufacturing process, material recipe, and structural design method, aiming to convert the traditional design method into a systematic “manufacturing-material-structure” integrated design method.
