Introduction
On November 2, 2023, the 3rd NEXCEL Series Forum on Building Efficiency & Insulation Materials was hosted by NEXCEL. Three experts from university, research institution and firm were invited to deliver presentations on surface modification of extruded polystyrene board, integrated structural-insulation wall and polyurethane insulation boards. This forum was chaired by NEXCEL Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) member, Prof. Sun Shibing from Beijing University Of Technology and Dr. Li Juan, Program Director of NEXCEL. This forum is received strong support from the China Insulation & Energy Efficiency Materials Association and attracted active participation of more than 3600 viewers.

Associate Professor Jin Xiaodong from Beijing University Of Technology delivered a speech entitled "The surface modification of extruded polystyrene foam (XPS) and its bonding performance with mortar". Professor Jin introduced XPS surface modification measure and its bonding properties with mortar. He pointed out that based on UV-curing, spraying a nano-modified polyurethane acrylate emulsion can result in a bonding strength between XPS and mortar of up to 0.498 MPa.

Prof. Xiao Ming, Deputy Chief Engineer of China Institute of Building Standard Design & Research, as the project Principal Investigator of NEXCEL, and presented a report entitled "Research and Demonstration on Integrated Structural-Insulation Wall". He elaborated on the development and standard formulation of FRP insulation connection products for precast sandwich wall panels, which provide theoretical support for the application of integrated thermal insulation wall structures in ultra-low energy buildings.

Mr. Cheng Dongdong, R&D Engineer of Wanhua Chemical Group, gave a report entitled "Technological development and application of polyurethane rigid thermal insulation material". He pointed out that polyurethane with low thermal are the preferred insulation material in many industries. He gave a detailed introduction to the key technologies of flame retardancy for polyurethane board and polyisocyanurate (PIR) board.
In the final Salon/ Q&A session, experts interacted with online scholars around issues such as the market application of different types of integrated insulation wall structures and the requirements for FRP connectors based on the thickness of insulation wall, the potential of new insulation materials such as aerogels, etc. The Forum was successfully concluded in a lively academic discussion.
