On September 12th, 2023, the 26th China Composites Expo 2023 was held at National Exhibition and Convention Center(Shanghai), and nearly 800 exhibitors and over 20,000 attendees participated in the exhibition. Several companies under China National Building Material Group(CNBM) took part in the exhibition.
Dr. Li Juan, the Program Director of NEXCEL, was invited to attend the Expo and the 7th High Forum on Innovation and Development of Carbon Fiber and Advanced FRP Composites, and delivered a keynote speech titled "Carbon Fiber Composite Solutions for Civil Engineering".
Dr. Li Juan introduced the global advances in deployment of Fiber Reinforced Polymers (FRP) and Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymers (CFRP) in the sector of civil engineering. She highlighted four prominent applications of FRP, and outlined the top ten FRP projects worldwide.
Dr. Li expressed, “With the reduction in material costs, the domain of FRP applications is gradually shifting from aerospace to civil construction, and FPR is playing an increasingly significant role in a multitude of engineering area."
To conclude, Dr. Li presented an overview of NEXCEL and its ongoing projects. The outcomes in composite materials, supported by the funded projects from 2022 to 2024, are expected to offer unparalleled performance, durability, and sustainability in the building solutions, while prolonging their life cycle and mitigating carbon emissions.
China's demand for CFRP was about 114,506 metric tons in 2022, with an output value of 144.9 billion RMB. Among them, the demand from the building and construction sector accounted for 4.2% with an output value of 2.3 billion RMB. It is mainly applied in areas such as composite profiles, FRP rebars, FRP insulation products, polyurethane doors and windows etc. CFRP is expected a strong demand In the future.
During the exhibition, "CCE-JEC Innovation Product Awards" were awarded to a total of 11 products, which were selected among the 59 products from 47 exhibitors. Concurrently, the Expo also hosted three other forums on "Recycling of FRP", "Repair and Testing of FRP", and "Thermoplastic FRP Materials Training Lectures". China Composites Expo provides a technological innovation platform for exchanges among the producers and end users, and promoting the development of the FRP materials sector.
