NEXCEL signed MOU with RIOH

On July 19, 2023, NEXCEL signed Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Research Institute of Highway Ministry of Transport (RIOH). It was attended by Mr. Waleed Al-Otaibi, Head of Nonmetallic PMO & Engineering of Saudi Aramco, also NEXCEL Steering Committee (SC) Chairman, Mr. Mohammed Al-Qahtani, Head of Aramco Technology Management Division and SC member, Professor Yao Yan, Chairlady of NEXCEL Technical Advisory Committee (TAC), Dr. Li Juan, Program Director of NEXCEL, as well as Prof. Xu Jian, Director of the Road Engineering Research Center of RIOH, Prof. Huang Songchang from RIOH, and other 4 TAC members from Aramco.
Director Xu Jian accompanied the delegation on a visit of the RIOH 's exhibition room and the Tongzhou Highway and Traffic Comprehensive Test Field, highlighting numerous innovative research achievements in areas such as intelligent transportation technology, green construction and maintenance technology, and energy-saving and emission reduction technology. He emphasized that RIOH is committed to promote coordinated advances in the fields of transportation and environment, which is in line with Saudi Aramco's sustainable development principles. He expressed that RIOH had previously established fruitful cooperation with NEXCEL and looks forward to continuing innovative research and application in the field of nonmetallic materials in collaboration with Saudi Aramco.
Mr. Waleed Al-Otaibi highly appreciated the RIOH's research achievements in the field of highway transportation. He emphasized that Saudi Aramco will maintain a keen interest in the fields including in-place warm mix recycling asphalt technology and mechanical foaming asphalt technology. He expressed his expectation to work together with RIOH to tackle critical challenges of nonmetallic materials in highway transportation and to promote the transformation and implementation of hydrocarbon-based materials and advanced asphalt technology.
During the meeting, Principal Investigator, Ms. Zeng Wei and Dr. Chang Rong presented project reports on "Application technology and engineering demonstration of hot in-place recycling of waste asphalt pavement" and "Mechanical foaming warm mix asphalt characteristics and mixture performance improvement and engineering demonstration". They engaged in in-depth technical exchanges with experts from Saudi Aramco.
At the end of the meeting, Director Li Juan announced that the project " Application technology and engineering demonstration of hot in-place recycling of waste asphalt pavement" was awarded the Excellent Project Award by NEXCEL. Mr. Waleed Al-Otaibi and Director Li Juan jointly presented certificate of award to Zeng Wei's team and extended their congratulations.
The successful signing of MOU further promotes the comprehensive strategic cooperation between RIOH and NEXCEL, concerning scientific research collaboration, outcome transformation, resource sharing, and cooperative advocacy.
