NEXCEL Convened 2023 First Steering Committee Meeting

On July 18, 2023, NEXCEL convened 2023 First SC Meeting, and the members of NEXCEL Steering Committee (SC) as well as representatives of NEXCEL Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) from Saudi Aramco and China Building Materials Academy (CBMA) gathered in Beijing and were present at the meeting, which was chaired by Mr. Waleed Al-Otaibi, Head of Nonmetallic PMO & Engineering of Saudi Aramco, also SC Chairman. SC members including Mr. Mohammed Al-Qahtani, Head of Aramco Technology Management Division, Mr. Ma Zhenzhu, Chairman of CBMA, Mr. Hou Diyang, President of CBMA, Prof. Wang Hua, as well as Prof. Yao Yan, TAC Chairlady, and TAC members including Mr. Mohammed Mehthel, Mr. Oscar Salazar, Mr. Mohammed Al-Salloum, Prof. Wang Ling, Prof. Jia Jinsheng, Mr. Ke Te, Mr. Mohammed N. Al-Mulhim, Vice President of Engineering of Aramco Asia, NEXCEL Technical Support and Liaison Office (TSLO) members and NEXCEL team attended the meeting.
Mr. Ma Zhenzhu expressed warm welcome to Saudi Aramco delegation who travelled across the globe attending this meeting. He pointed out that CBMA has been supporting and witnessing the growth and operation of NEXCEL in the past 18 months. NEXCEL launched over 30 projects which are implemented by top Chinese research teams from universities, enterprises or institutes. Early July, 5 projects passed the Concluding Review, achieving a batch of excellent outcomes, which exerted an influence over both relevant research and application, serving as a significant milestone for NEXCEL’s development in the long run. Mr. Ma emphasized that CBMA will back up the project implementation and industrialization, building NEXCEL into a more sustainable nonmetallic innovation platform in Building and Construction sector.

Mr. Waleed Al-Otaibi expressed sincere gratitude for the warm reception from CBMA and spoke highly of the efforts and achievements of NEXCEL in the past six months. He said that he really understands and appreciates the leadership of CBMA in R&D and application in China, as well as the high reputation in standardization and certification. He emphasized that NEXCEL can not achieve such a wealth of results in just over a year without the great support of CBMA. In the future, through combining the great potential of Chinese market with abundant resources in the Middle East, the collaboration between Saudi Aramco and CBMA will go beyond NEXCEL, in many other areas as discussed.

Dr. Li Juan, Program Director of NEXCEL, reviewed the work in the past six months of 2023 and presented the work plan in the following months. She made a detailed introduction to the formulation of 2024 NEXCEL Project Guideline. During the meeting, the "Recommended List of 2024 Program Guideline" as well as the "KPIs for NEXCEL operation" was approved.
This visit of Saudi Aramco delegation and the convening of SC Meeting strengthened the mutual trust and win-win relationship between Saudi Aramco and CBMA, providing clear direction to NEXCEL on the way forward.
